RED BULLS ADVANCE TO DISNEY CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH WITH PK WIN OVER HOUSTON DYNAMO

The New York Red Bulls defeated the Houston Dynamo, 6-5, in a penalty kick shootout after the two teams played to a 0-0 tie over 90 minutes on Thursday night at the Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Kissimmee, FL. New York will face Toronto FC in the championship game on Saturday at 8:30 PM ET.  Post match video after the jump.

After the first 10 penalty kicks were converted, the Dynamo’s Geoff Cameron hit the woodwork on his attempt, before Red Bulls rookie midfielder Austin da Luz put his opportunity in the back of the net to give New York the victory.

  5. jason Says:

good game thanksfor the game torronto

  6. lou Says:

linpere looked very good, ream looked good and actually passed the ball out of the back instead of kicking it up field, da luz found a lot of holes to pass through, miller looked good, I didn’t get to see jaager because i only found the feed after he was subbed out. Richards did not look good, he looked like the same dane richards as last year, everyone else played alright. Overall i thought it was a Good game for us.

  7. El Says:

Richards is gonna be a key player for us, and Backe realizes that, we can rip him all we want but there is a reason why he is a starter year after year. Players with his speed are very dangerous, and we can ignore it all we want, he was the player that spearheaded our run to MLS Cup the year before. Last year the teams tactics did not favor his play, he has flaws as some like to point out constantly, but he also has qualities and we need him to have a good year.PERIOD.

    • lou Says:

He’s only good without the ball. with the ball he shoots himself in the foot. In order for him to have a good year, we’ll need a player that can spray the ball around and get the ball to him behind the defense, in which case he’ll probably miss the finish 3 out of 5 times but that’s besides the point.
Yeah he has speed, probably more speed than any other player in the league, but he lacks any sort of soccer instincts and word is he is a locker room cancer ( i can’t confirm or deny that, just figured i’d mention it because it’s important). I’m not giving him all the credit for our playoff run either. He was important for us, but cepero came up bigger then any other player during those games, and woly was also a huge part of that run.
If we can use him right, then great, but i don’t like having a player that is apparently so vital to the success of our team but yet is so one dimensional, I’d much rather trade him. I’m not the coach though, so whatever. Backe likes him, and hopefully his master plan for richards proves to be a success.

Predict the score for the Toronto-NY game. I say 2-0 Red Bulls

  9. emilio Says:

From the highlights it looked like Richards played pretty well, he forced a tough safe from the Toronto keeper and made a the final pass to Angel that led to a clear shot on goal.

  10. emilio Says:

Lets put it this way, you cant deny or confirm it because you made that up, you need to rip Richards at all cost so now you resort to that.

    • lou Says:

i didn’t make it up at all. people that have met him personally have said that about him on the metrofanatic boards. Since i haven’t met him, i said i couldn’t confirm or deny it personally. Just because you like him doesn’t mean it’s made up. And since continuity is fairly important when building a team, being a locker room cancer seems like something that is noteworthy. There’s plenty to rip on in regards to richards without me having to make up stuff. Even if it was made up (which it’s not) his glaring weaknesses are still present.

  11. Matt Says:

You need to fix the headline. We beat Houston Dynamo, not Toronto FC.
