RED BULLS SIGN THREE DRAFT PICKS

Red Bull New York announced today that it has signed defender Tim Ream, forward Conor Chinn and midfielder Irving Garcia. All three players were selected by New York in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft on Jan. 14 in Philadelphia, PA.

Ream was a second round (18th overall) selection from Saint Louis University. The former All-American was the Atlantic 10 Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2009 after scoring a career-high six goals and five assists. Ream played the full 90 minutes in central defense and tallied an assist against Santos FC last Saturday in the Red Bulls’ 3-1 win at Red Bull Arena’s Grand Opening.

Chinn was selected in the third round (34th overall) in the draft out of the University of San Francisco. The 2008 WCC Player of the Year after recording 17 goals, Chinn scored four goals for New York in preseason action. The 22-year-old from San Diego, CA was 2009 First Team All-WCC selection, tallying 10 goals and three assists.

Garcia was picked by New York in the fourth round (50th overall) out of the University of California – Irvine. He helped Irvine win two-straight Big West Conference titles and led the league in points and assists, earning the Big West Offensive Player of the year.

    Um…and Tchani and Da Luz?

  2. Red Bulls Reader Says:

Tchani and da Luz were already under contract with the league when they were selected in Philly. We drafted their MLS rights.

  3. gas huffer Says:

Who has been waived to get our roster down to 24 by 5PM?

Great job i believe this guys r going to be very soon in the staring lineup i might sound crazy now but they have what it takes i don’t know if they all would get there at the same time but besides any injiries they should get there . Soler has done a good job so far let see how things develop during the season. If the team find themselves in the hunt for the playoffs it might be difficult to find minutes for them but i guees we just have to trust Soler and Backe on that. thumbs up^……………..

  5. Red Bulls Reader Says:

If you crunch the #s, we are already roster compliant.

    • Cindy Says:

generation adidas players don’t count against the roster size right? is that the same for homegrown players too?

      • Peter C Says:

GA players do count on the roster, but not against the salary cap(unless they are also Home Grown). Home Grown players are not counted towards the 24 man roster.

    • Oh_yeah Says:

      O.k., thanks for that info.

    • Lot15C Says:

Don’t understand how we’re roster compliant. Even if Chirgadze doesn’t count on the roster, that leaves us with 25 players after signing Salou.

Im so unbelievably excited for this season

Tim Ream is a great choice he played pretty good for the first game last week. Looking like a better season this year!GO RED BULLS!

  8. lou Says:

Ream has the potential to be something great. garcia will have to adjust to the physicality of the league but he is very entertaining to watch. chinn is a serviceable forward option. tchani has a lot of potential but as i said on draft day, he is extremely raw. and I’m really hoping da luz sees very solid time on the left side because he has really impressed me so far.

  9. Alle Says:

Ream is a beast, enough said. No wonder why Backe was crazy about him!

  10. Cindy Says:

yeah honestly, that was a great pick up in Ream by Erik Soler and Richie Williams, he’s so composed on field! he’ll do awesome this season, i’m sure of it

  11. Billy Says:

kinda bumbed out that obster was cut. i dont think he had enough playing time to say that he was garbage or he was great but he was allright. he gave good crosses and had a good shot with his left foot =]! but yea i guess we got ream garcia and chinn :D!!

  12. Starks in Tampa Says:

I much like all of you was so impressed with Reams play versus Santos, he was poised, never out of position, did not play scared even though he probably had tons of nerves for the game considering the atmosphere and who he was playing against….very impressed!

  13. lou Says:

Also figured I’d mentioned that Luke Rodgers of Notts county (last team backe coached for) is rumored to sign with red bull. He is very fast, and can play on the wing but has been used more often as a striker. He’s played in 282 games and has scored 91 goals. I don’t think we need another striker, but perhaps backe is comfortable enough with him to use him on the wing.

Generation Adidas does not count on the roster

  16. Tyler Says:

Sighning Chinn is an Awesome move…………He soon will be a starter putting the ball in the net.

  17. Dario Says:

Ream is amazing, he will be a great US NT player in the next 5-6 years.

    Good Job Red Bulls!

Is it just me or does it feel as if our luck has finally turned for the better?

I have not posted on many sites yet because I am afraid I will jinx it šŸ˜‰

I hope we do great this season. MLS teams are a different animal compared to foreign teams (who give more room for players to be creative) MLS sides can and do punish South American/European type sides all the time. Don’t get it wrong, The Red Bulls looked the best I have ever seen them against Santos

    COM’ON REDBULLS!!! COM’ON REDBULLS!!! COM’ON REDBULLS!!!

    • Starks in Tampa Says:

welcome NYRB..glad to have you. We need to make this blog site like the Lohud Yankee blog…the one stop shop for NYRB news and discussion.

oma gawd oma gawd oma gawd, dave van den bergh was waived by fc dallas!! can this be……….can the flying dutchman be back in a red bull uniofrom? the CBA says hes gonna have to go into that stupid draft thingy but still…….the possiblity of his return gives me something to be even more excited about.

    • j1mbr0wn Says:

I agree. RBR, tell Soler and Backe we would love to see Dave back in NY.

      • gigi Says:

The organization this year has made all the right moves, bringing back one of the most beloved players in metrostar/red bull history would just be the iceing on the cake. Im sure richie must have put a good word for him to soler and backe. I believe we also get the first crack at him in the waiver draft so i like the odds of him comming back.

    • gigi Says:

tried to do the lineups but it came out all funny oh well

      • Cindy Says:

could you imagine? a NY squad with some depth? we might not have crashed out of the CCL in the first round. here’s to getting in again and succeeding this time!

  21. Starks in Tampa Says:

I would love to see DVB back, imagine a the crosses into the box with Angel and Salou or an improved Khandji…but then the question is who would be released if he does indeed find his way back?

    • gigi Says:

oh man soler and backe just took a huge dump right infront of our parade, brian lewis is reporting that soler said that they are not interested in dave van den bergh at the moment. still could be a possiblity though….i hope.
