Red Bulls vs. Crew: Matchday

New York hosts Columbus at Red Bull Arena tonight at 7:30 PM ET (MSG -also available in SAP-  WQBU, TICKETS).  The Red Bulls seek three points and welcome Thierry Henry back to the lineup after the striker sat out last week’s draw away to Vancouver with an injury.  The New York lineup has been hit hard by Gold Cup callups, so expect to see some new faces in the lineup tonight.  Lineups and usual running commentary after the jump:

2′ Ballouchy gave it a go from 25 yards that Hesmer had to push wide for a corner.

3′ NY sends in three good crosses, but the Crew defends well. Henry has some words with Heinemann.

5′ Crew earns a corner off a counter attack.

7′ da Luz with a nice through ball to Henry, but his cross is broken up.

9′ GOAL NY!! Ballouchy takes a nice through ball from Rodgers and chips Hesmer! 1-0 NY!

13′ Mendoza gets an open look, but Sutton is there to gobble it up.

16′ Ekpo fouls Lindpere near midfield and gets some words from referee Niko Bratsis

17′ NY rushes forward with numbers, but after the initial shot, several players are in an offsides position.

18′ Crew draw a foul 30 yards out, and James tried to bicycle it in, but its wide.

24′ Gaven finds space near the top of the area, but he puts it well over.

26′ Solli is down.  Not sure what happened to him at this point.

28′ Looks like it could be a right hamstring.  Kassel replaces Solli.

29′ Confirmed.  Right hamstring injury for Solli.

31′ Things are getting a little chippy as Columbus gets called for successive fouls.

32′ Crew play a long ball out of the back that Keel can’t quite get to.  Sutton comes way off his line to diffuse the threat.

32′ Yellow to Balchan.

34′ Duka makes an individual run, but Sutton makes the easy save.

39′ NY with a great sequence, but the Crew defense blocks two shots.

40 Crew sub: Cunningham for Heinemann.  Brawn for Speed?

45′ 2 minutes of stoppage

HALFTIME: NY uses an early Ballouchy tally and carry a 1-0 lead into the break.

52′ Crew earn a corner after a defensive flub by NY

58′ Gaven with a try from distance that Sutton punches over.

60′ Cunningham gets off a snap header that Sutton snares, but he is offsides anyway.

61′ Ballouchy pulls up with what looks like a hamstring.

63′ Ballouchy stays in the match.

65′ Mendoza gets the ball alone in front, but chunks it out of bounds.

70′ Nice overlapping run from Kassel after a long buildup, but his cross goes begging.

72′ Yellow to Ekpo for a foul on Keel

74′ Crew sub: Meram for Duka

76′ Mendoza with a free header in front of net, but he puts it well wide.

83′ NY defending well in the late stages as Columbus pushes forward.

84′ On the counter, Rodgers has his shot blocked.

89′ Crew earn a late corner

90+’ Goal Crew.  Meram sends in a cross that Balchan slides home in the six.  1-1.

    kassel is the best play maker the team is going to change the way they play because it takes 11 men to win the man wasn’t there for the cross.
