Red Bull New York announced today the signings of Finnish international midfielder/defender Teemu Tainio and defender Stephen Keel. Tainio will be added to the team’s roster pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC). Keel spent significant time in the USL First Division and a short stint in MLS since beginning his professional career in 2005.

“The club is thrilled about adding a player of Teemu’s class,” said Red Bull New York Sporting Director Erik Soler. “He is a versatile player with a vast amount of experience and we are confident that he will fit right in with the team and become a valuable contributor immediately.”

In regards to Keel, Soler said, “We are excited to sign Stephen and have him officially join our club. He has impressed us in training and in our preseason matches and will provide depth to our back line.”

  1. Tim F. Says:

Welcome Teemu and Stephen. I hope you enjoy your time with the club and can help the team win the Supporters Shield, MLS Cup and the US Open Cup!

  2. el Says:

I wonder what players will be released, any word on when the final roster will be submitted?

  3. Luis C Says:

Still no playmaker.I see less goals .I hope Rodgers( They gave him a contract without a physical) is not the same as Nielsen.
We do not need to bring people injured we already had Nielsen &
the way I see it we won’t see him in 2011

  4. New York, New York Says:

[…] existing New York club just signed a couple of players, including ex-Timber Stephen Keel. Not sure if this ranks with Pele, except in […]

  5. eric Says:

If ballouchy is our center attacking mid we are in trouble

  6. emilio Says:

Lets relax Balouchy is a good player and if you compare the players in our midfield it is one of the best in the league, we have Lindpere, Richards, Tainio, Tchani, Balloucy, Solli thats 6 good players. What we need is pace up top which when Rodgers is ready which should be in a week should be corrected.

  7. Luis C Says:

If the forwards do not have somebody to feed them from the midfield
makes more dificult to score.Thats why sometimes you saw Henry
in the preseason in the midfield looking for balls and by the way he
put the best passes to whoever was up top.Balouchy is a regular midfielder that disappears very often on the field

  8. Jonathan West Says:

In case anyone is wondering about a local TV deal I called RBNY today, and was told the games will be televised on “whatever is your local MSG channel”. I haven’t seen anything offical on this since hearing that a tv deal was in the works over a month or two ago. On our cable box guide and the MSGTV website the Seattle game isn’t listed yet and it isn’t on the RBNY or MLS website. Apparently they’re working on the deal.

  9. Al Says:

Looks like the deal is “almost done”, at least according to Big Apple Soccer.. let’s hope so..

  10. el Says:

RBR can you update us on how many foreign roster spots we have I know 8 initially, we have two additional acquired from trades that makes 10. But looking at our current roster if Salou and Nielsen remain that would make 12 foreign player slots, unless maybe Robinson has obtained Canadian residency etc. Can you update us on this?
