EXPANSION DRAFT PROTECTED LIST REVEALED

Red Bull New York released its 11-man protected roster this afternoon to Major League Soccer ahead of Wednesday’s 2010 MLS Expansion Draft at 2:00 PM. All current MLS clubs protected 11 players from their 2010 roster today. The League’s 17th and 18th teams that are joining in 2011, the Vancouver Whitecaps FC and the Portland Timbers, will each select 10 players during the 10-round draft.

Generation adidas players (who have not graduate at the end of the 2010 season) and Home Grown players are automatically protected and do not count against a team’s 11 protected roster spots. New York’s protected list after the jump:

Goalkeeper: Bouna Coundoul
Defenders: Chris Albright, Danleigh Borman, Carlos Mendes, Roy Miller, Tim Ream
Midfielders: Mehdi Ballouchy, Joel Lindpere, Rafa Marquez, Dane Richards
Forward: Thierry Henry

Midfielder Tony Tchani (Generation adidas) and forwards Juan Agudelo and Giorgi Chirgadze (Home Grown players) are automatically protected.

In the draft, once two (2) players have been claimed from a club’s non-protected roster, that club is eliminated from the expansion draft and may not lose any further players. In addition, once a player has been claimed from a Club’s non-protected roster, that Club may move a player from its non-protected roster to its protected roster.

The following New York players are unprotected and can be selected by Vancouver or Portland:

Goalkeeper: Greg Sutton
Defenders: Andrew Boyens, Mike Petke, Carey Talley
Midfielders: Austin da Luz, Irving Garcia, Brian Nielsen, Carl Robinson, Luke Sassano, Seth Stammler, Sinisa Ubiparipovic
Forwards: Juan Pablo Angel, Conor Chinn, Salou Ibrahim

i’m surprised Danleigh Borman was protected. I wonder if Portland or Vancouver will take JPA [which is not gonna be fun for him to play at with the turf 😦 ]

  2. gigi Says:

they would still have to negotiate to get jpa too, i hope they dont take him. Someone should develop that Men in Black thing where it erases ppls memory and use it on jpa so he can play in south america instead of playin for another mls team.

I actually heard DC is trying to use the same thing so their fans can forget how suckey suckey their team was this year. They should be in a geico comercial…DC united..so easy a caveman can beat them ha…i crack myself up….

  3. Slayer Says:

Sutton is definitely vulnerable. Who else? Chinn?
