RED BULLS-UNION PRE-GAME

The Red Bulls will try to keep pace atop the Eastern Conference standings when they make their first trip to PPL Park to take on their newest rival the Philadelphia Union. The Red Bulls come into the match a bit shorthanded due to injury and suspension, as two regular starters will not suit up. Forward Thierry Henry will be rested, as he strained his left knee in training this week. Also, due to yellow card accumulation, left back Roy Miller will sit, and Danleigh Borman will slot into his position. Here is how the rest of the Red Bulls’ Starting XI shapes up:

—————–Angel——————-

Lindpere—–Ballouchy—-Richards

—-Márquez————Tchani——–

Borman—Ream—Mendes–Albright

————-Coundoul———————-

The substitutes’ bench is as follows:

Greg Sutton (GK), Carl Robinson, Salou Ibrahim, Austin Da Luz, Juan Agudelo, Jeremy Hall, Sinisa Ubiparipovic.

-This will be the second meeting all-time between the new rivals. Earlier this season, the Red Bulls defeated the Union at Red Bull Arena on April 24 by a 2-1 score on goals from Juan Pablo Angel and Salou Ibrahim. Three days after that at Red Bull Arena, the teams met in the U.S. Open Cup, and again the Red Bulls came out on top 2-1, thanks to a brace from rookie Conor Chinn.

-The Red Bulls come into the match off a scoreless draw with Real Salt Lake last weekend at home. The tie improved the Red Bulls’ advantage atop the Eastern Conference to two points over Columbus. The Red Bulls are unbeaten in their last five matches, with a record of 3-0-2.

-Overall, Philadelphia is 7-14-7 in their first season in MLS under head coach Peter Nowak. At home this season, the Union are 5-3-6; however, since they made the move to the brand new PPL Park (they played three home matches at Lincoln Financial Field), the Union are just 3-4-5 at home.

-The match features two of the most dangerous goal scorers in Major League Soccer this season. Juan Pablo Angel of the Red Bulls and the Union’s Sebastien Le Toux both have 13 goals this season, which ranks second in the league behind Edson Buddle’s 16.

Make sure you catch the match on Fox Soccer Channel with the broadcast starting at 5:30 PM (kickoff is at 6:00 PM). We’ll also be blogging the game live via our Twtitter account (@newyorkredbulls). Enjoy the match!

Why don’t they have Chinn at the game? He is more of a threat than Ibrahim and Agudelo.

  3. Billy Says:

why dont they start Chinn or Ibrahim or Aguedelo and play a god damn 4-4-2!! We play our best when we play it and when Angel has a partner to match up with!!

  4. david Says:

Is it safe to say the Ballouchy deal is not working out for us? He hasn’t been very good.

  9. Taz Says:

It is because we have a sedentary forward.. What do you expect –miracles?

  10. karbaz Says:

Unbelievable, how we lose to a team like this I will never know.

This one man striker thing has to go, we need to start with two up top.

idk the 4-4-2 is our best not one striker and i think we did not play hard cuz we do not want anyone getting hurt before playoffs. or maybe red bulls think hey we got a whole week still number 1 of the east and i say new england is a must win no matter what and we will win frist in the east by one point

  11. sicote Says:

commentator’s curse–I say ballouchy hasn’t been good and he goes and sets up the goal…

  12. Dario Says:

Whatever I felt this was a “trap” game anyway. The good news is that the Crew dropped pts, therefore if we beat NER we win th East.

IF we dont beat NE at home, in our final game, we dont deserve the EAST.

But saying that..IMO, i think we will win on Thurs, and force John Harkes to say we are the Eastern Champs on ESPN2. HAHAHAHAHAH!!!

  13. el Says:

Ballouchy has played well with us Angel is done, he doesnt bring anything to the table anymore. Lets win on thursday and we win the east!!

  14. Harry Says:

FUSTRATING PERIOD, BORMAN PLAYED DECENT EVEN THOUGH HE RECEIVED A YELLOW.

  15. T. Todorov Says:

    4-4-2
