RED BULLS REACT TO 2-1 LOSS AT PHILLY

After a tough first half in which Philadelphia scored two goals, the Red Bulls fought back and came within a goal after Danleigh Borman scored three minutes into the second half. New York pressed to the very end and Juan Agudelo nearly earned a point for the visitors with a goal-bound header that was cleared off the line by Fred, who scored one of the goals for the Union.

We caught up with head coach Hans Backe, defender and Philadelphia native Chris Albright, Borman and Agudelo after the game. The Red Bulls, which still has a one point first place lead, can still clinch the Eastern Conference with a win in their final regular season game against the New England Revolution on Thursday night at Red Bull Arena.

What a disappointing game, I really thought they were going to turn it around in the second half….4-4-2 works, don’t change it!

  2. soccer lou Says:

4-5-1 has never work with the rbny why keep trying with it? anyway
next game should be the clincher against new england hopefully they play with the playoff in their minds because they are going to need it bad game Mr. Backe but with a win againts the revs it would make everybody feel much better. JPA your heart would be miss…

  3. Zeelimit Says:

I agree that 4-4-2 is the best option. But they were using it last night. Balouchy played the first half at forward and Ibrahim played the second half at that position. The problem wasn’t the alignment, but the ineffectiveness of the players that played up top (including Angel).

  4. Jim Says:

The headshot by Agudelo at the very end was great! It would have tied the game.

  5. em Says:

They played a 4-4-2 with Ballouchy as the second striker yesterday, I dont know where you guys are getting this 4-5-1. Angel has been awful for the last 2 1/2 months.

  6. marcia Says:

First half Angel was sole striker with Ballouchy BEHIND him, second half they put Ibrahim in partnered up front with Angel. Henry was out so they figured what the hell, might as well try the new formation. There was no service at all in the first half.

  7. orlando Says:

As soon as I saw the 4-5-1 line-up I knew it was going to be a tough game. Going to watch this Thursday’s match, hopefully RBNY plays the game with passion, more accurate passes, more creativity with the ball on the attack and rebound.

  8. walter Says:

We now have to win at home this Thursday against New England………

  9. Matt Says:

The players owed the hundreds of RBNY fans who traveled down to the game a better effort than that. Really disappointed with the way the team played – especially in the first half.

  10. el Says:

Angel hasnt scored a goal in the run of play in over 900 minutes(only 2 pks), and we arent saying anything about that, why?

    • Scott Says:

Because Angel isn’t the star striker anymore and he is just here to finish out the season so talking him down doesn’t really serve any purpose.

      • el Says:

It serves a purpose because everyone is getting crazy about him not being back next season, so being real and looking at his production over the last 11 games demonstrates that he has no business being re-signed for DP money. Thats the point.

  11. marcia Says:

No one is getting CRAZY, but if everyone wants to be REAL, for the unbelievable amount of money we paid for Henry, how come we are not being REAl about his production, finishing, goals and injuries for HIS age! I want to know what the BIG surprise news the team has is?

    • redbulls4ever Says:

Only Salt Lake is REAL lol, just kidding, trying to lighten the mood.My part to get us ready for tomorrow nights gam, a win and we gain the eastern conference.

      GO REDBULLS……………………………………………………

  12. el Says:

Henry joined us with no pre-season, next year will determine whether it was a good signing or not. As far as injuries, he didnt have a full pre-season with us and last game he was rested for precautionary purposes he will most likely play on Thursday. I dont think any logical person will say that Angel is better than Henry, yes Henry only has two goals, but his play and leadership have been pivotal in getting the team to first place in the division, and the focus other teams place on him free’s other players up. If Angel doesnt score in a game he is a non-factor thats not the case with Henry.

I have a feeling people will be happy with the player who will replace Angel.

Loss to Philly and a LOSS to Season Ticket Holders. My 425 dollar tickets are being increased by 25 percent to 530 dollars. Why? Because RB will host 2 more games. With 15+1 bonus game being increased to 17+1 bonus game, that is less than 15 percent. Existing season ticket holders should be penalized. The 425 should at most be 475. New season ticket holders should pay 530. We, the existing season ticket holder, purchased the tickets to see a team that placed LAST. We did not know the team would succeed, with rookies like Ream and Tchani, and ascertain Henry and Marquez. We only knew it was a new stadium with grass. And on top of that, I have not seen the stadium truly sell out. They say it’s sold out, but I see empty seats. I see only 16 to 18 thousand a game. So if you are having a tough time filling the seats, raise the ticket price on your loyal season ticket holders. Shameful.

    • el Says:

Next year we will be getting 20 games, 17 regular season, 1 friendly and 2 playoff matches. Thats 20 games, its a good deal overall, why dont u change your seat location to a cheaper spot.

Time will tell whether Henry is worth the money or not…right now, I know that he enjoys being a NYer and has always loved New York, but I have yet to hear him say how much he loves being a Red Bull! He speaks of his past teams and accomplishments and said when he joined the team that he was going to set the record for goals scored that no one would beat…so far he’s no where near that. Fans want players to be loyal, to play with their heart and mind, never give up and have the skill to bring American football to the forefront, for me, Henry has 2 out the 4.

    • el Says:

Henry never said anything about record goal scoring, but thats neither here noe there. One thing Henry has bought to us is a winning mindset and has given the team a confidence they never had. We are one way away from winning the division lets be excited about that rather than attacking Henry because we are disgruntled that the team isnt bringing Angel back.

  16. marcia Says:

As for the price of season tickets, the seats I sat in for the last 3 games cost $3000 a seat next season but that comes with parking and food!

  17. marcia Says:

On July 14, 2010, ESPN quoted Henry as saying, “I’m going to set an MLS record for goals in a single season that won’t be beaten for 40 years”, which was reitterated in many blogs ,please, verify this for youself even though it is neither here nor there! As for Angel not returning, this too will be a matter of, only time will tell , if the franchise made the right move or not. The surprising news never said it was about a replacement for Angel, just that it would be a big surprise for fans! If your statement is correct, when can we expect to hear who it is….you seem to have the inside track?!

  18. marcia Says:

You said, “people will be happy with the player who will replace Angel”, who IS that…it sounds like you know?!

  19. el Says:

I heard a rumor that Claudio Pizzaro who plays for Werder Bremen is a possibility to be signed. He has scored over 50 goals over the last two seasons with Werder.
