The club announced today that forward Thierry Henry will miss the team’s clash against the Los Angeles Galaxy match at The Home Depot Center on Friday, Sept. 24 at 11:00 PM ET (TV: ESPN2, ESPN Deportes; Radio: WADO 1280 AM) due to a MCL sprain in his right knee. Henry initially suffered the injury against Real Salt Lake on Sept. 4 in a 1-0 loss at Rio Tinto Stadium.  CLICK FOR COMPLETE STATEMENT.

What do you think this means for the match with LA?  Do you think the Red Bulls can still secure a result at the Home Depot Center?  Is it the right decision to rest Henry ahead of the playoffs?  Share your thoughts in the comments section.

I guess Angel will now start with Ballouchy.

Sad news but at least Tchani will get to play. It amazes me that he is having a virtually flawless season, as a rookie, and was immediately benched for Ballouchy.

Ballouchy looked good but was basically a bust in Colorado, I was unnerved that he just walked right into the first team at the cost of one of our most reliable players.

    • emilio Says:

What are you talking about? Tchani wasnt benched last game in favor of Ballouchy, it was Angel who lost his spot. Tchani is an essential player on this team, and Backe prefer to partner Henry with Balloucy.

It is going to be a tough game, but anything can happen. We need to close down Donovan, I am more concerned about their offense. Well yes, we need a good offense too.

JPA has a chance to show hans he made a mistake benching him by socreing more then 1 goal

  5. emilio Says:

I hope Angel scores and plays well, but lets not attack Backe for making a decision intended at helping the team. Mobility is essential in a second striker and the fact is Angel has lost a few steps, he is stagnant outside the box, as players age these things happen. Balloucy being insterted was a positive move, he allows us to have more possession which is the way we want to play. Nowadays thats how Spain and Barcelona play and it has led to great success, we dont play a long ball style, Backe wants to keep the ball on the ground and touch it, and currently with that set up there is only one spot for Angel or Henry. This is about improving the team, not soothing players egos.

  6. Alle Says:

I don’t like this ‘Ballouchy as a second striker’ business. He was good against Dallas, but I’d rather see him drop back abit and leave Salou-Angel with the rest.

  7. emilio Says:

Salou-Angel tandem has limited speed, who are we gonna drop in the Midfield, dont you guys see that Tchani is essential to this team, since we have improved our play most of our goals have come from the midfield, we arent reliant on Angel for goals anymore, we have to play the team that is best suited for our style, a mobile second striker is essential in modern football.

    • Alle Says:

I never said I wanted to drop Tchani, but we’re gonna need another true striker up top if we want goals. Speed a problem? Why not Chinn then? I said Salou because he’d be Backe’s choice clearly after Henry and Angel. Mehdi was brought in as a 10 and we’re not gonna stay like this much longer (with the second striker business I mean). Once Henry’s back, what do you think Backe will do? Leave Angel on the bench again? I highly doubt it. Then, ofcourse as you mention, who would we drop? Good question. Is Tchani a risk? Yes, because it’s clear knowing Backe, he would’nt drop Marquez, Lindpere, or Richards (unless Dane starts going back into his poor form – which I don’t hope because he’s been brilliant). We’ll have to wait and see.

      • Alle Says:

Then again, for this match, Ballouchy would fit with Angel. But it’s going to be a question to ask once Henry’s back.

  8. Taz Says:

Why not the spped and energy of CHINN?

    • el Says:

Chinn’s first touch is very poor, he needs to improve in that facet. And I do see Backe playing Henry with Ballouchy when healthy, Angel is not part of the teams future plans, and we just have to come to accept that as we have no choice.

  9. Slayer Says:

I really hope Henry is not this fragile come playoff time.
