FOUR RED BULLS CALLED INTO INTERNATIONAL DUTY

New York Red Bulls midfielders Rafa Márquez and Dane Richards, goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul, and defender Roy Miller have been called up to their national teams for the next set of FIFA International dates from Sept. 3-7 and will be unavailable for the Red Bulls’ match at Real Salt Lake on Sept. 4.

Márquez was called up for Mexico’s upcoming friendlies on Sept. 4 against Ecuador in Guadalajara, Mexico and on Sept. 7 versus Colombia in Monterrey, Mexico. Márquez has represented Mexico 95 times, and captained the team at the 2002, 2006, and 2010 FIFA World Cups. Márquez signed with the Red Bulls as a Designated Player on Aug. 2, and scored his first goal for the club on Aug. 21 in a 4-1 victory over Toronto FC.

Richards has been called in to the Jamaica National Team for its upcoming friendlies on Sept. 5 against Costa Rica in Kingston, Jamaica and on Sept. 7 versus Peru in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Richards has appeared 17 times for Jamaica, and has scored one goal, which he notched in his last appearance for the “Reggae Boyz” against Trinidad and Tobago on Aug. 11. Richards has appeared in 19 matches this season for the Red Bulls, registering one goal and three assists.

Coundoul, who has three caps for the Senegal National Team, has been called up for Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Democratic Republic of the Congo on Sept. 5 in Lubumbashi, D.R. He last featured for Senegal in a friendly against Cape Verde Islands on Aug. 11. Coundoul, who leads Major League Soccer in saves this season, was acquired by New York on June 29, 2009.

Miller was called in for Costa Rica’s upcoming friendlies on Sept. 3 at Panama in Panama City, Panama and Sept. 5 at Jamaica in Kingston, Jamaica. Miller has 15 caps for Costa Rica. The defender was signed by the Red Bulls on Jan. 8, and has played in 19 matches this season for New York, registering one assist.

well sutton and the backs ups have to step it up cuz these are 4 players that hans will miss against RSL and we have to win at least this one big game after loseing the 2 other big games LA and the crew

  2. bryan Says:

the loss of rafa hurts…. and the way dane has been playing also hurts a great deal.. miller not so much and i think we can get away with having sutton in net… the team is clicking and now we lose 4 players to some stupid friendlies… i can understand these games are right before a world cup but rafa being called up is un needed they already know where the hell he is going to play they need to start looking for who is going to replace rafa cause he wont be around forever….

these are the times when we see what backe is made of as a coach how he will deal with these people being missing in action

I believe that that the NY Red Bull team needs to bring a brazilian player like Ronaldo 34 years old in order to fill the 25,000 seats SSS stadium with the brazilians and portuguese fans that are not showing up yet, since the Red Bull refuse to bring a good brazilian player.

PS: Simply take a look at how the middlelands get fill up with more than 50,000 brazilians and portugueses whenever a brazilian team visit the area. There is a potential of portuguese fans that need to be brought into the stadium, and the best way to do it, is by signing a brazilian or portuguese player like Ronaldo.

Ronaldo is grossly overweight and has stated he may retire this year. What I want is a winning team made up of quality players who want to win like Henry and Marquez. True soccer fans will come see the team play if they are winning and showing a commitment to winning, which these two signings demonstrate. A good brazilian player or portuguese player would be great but we cant just sign a player because of his nationality. Its a little sad that that is what drives certain people to games, im a soccer fan I want a good team over a player from my country.

The Red Bulls tryed to sign Ze Roberto who is still playing well and he decided to stay in Germany. If your gonna sign a player it has to be one who will help you win, not just a Brazilian or Portuguese player for the sake of it.

We had the same situation against Toronto and came away with a 1-0 victory.

Sutton–Albright, Mendes, Ream, Borman–Lindpere, Tchani, Stammler, Kandji–Angel, Henry

It wont be easy but with this lineup we have a shot at getting a positive result.

  6. GABRIEL Says:

I AGREE WITH EMILIO RONALDO IS NOT IN SHAPE RONALDINHO IS A BETTER CONDITION , THE RED BULLS SHOULD TRY AND GET NEYMAR. THAT LITTLE KID HAS ALOT OF TALENT. I THINK MARQUEZ AND RICHARDS SHOULD STAY AND PLAY. FORGET ABOUT THOSE STUPID FRIENDLY GAMES.

  7. Jorge Maradona Says:

Rogerio Ceni age 37 is a great goalkeeper curently playing for brazil unfortunately, these days almost all talented Brazilian players now leave Brazil to play in European leagues because the wages are much, much higher. Last year over 300 Brazilian players were signed to European teams. Talking about old players who played great being older than 40 years, Hugo Orlando Gatti was a mainstay at Boca Juniors. One of Argentina’s greatest ever keepers with a knack of saving penalties, he finally retired in 1988 at age 44 while still at Boca. Welsh goalkeeper Neville Southall also played until he was 44. Currently, Preki holds the record for oldest MLS player at 42.31 years. As of this past weekend, Pat Onstad was 41.57 years old. If Onstad is still playing next year, he’ll break the record sometime next May.
