RED BULLS-DYNAMO PRE-GAME

Good evening and thanks for joining us tonight as your Red Bulls take on the Houston Dynamo in New York’s first MLS match in two weeks. It is a typically hot day here in Houston’s Robertson Stadium with a good crowd expected to be in attendance. Tonight marks the MLS debut of forward Thierry Henry, who is in the starting lineup and made his Red Bulls debut against Tottenham Hotspur in the Barclays New York Challenge on July 22.

Here is the lineup for the Red Bulls:

———–Angel———-Henry————

Stammler-Lindpere—Tchani—–Kandji

Miller——-Ream—–Mendes—Albright

——————Coundoul——————-

Substitutes: Sutton, Petke, Robinson, Richards, Borman, Ubiparipovic, Hall

A few notes to get you started:

–          The Red Bulls had a five-match MLS unbeaten streak snapped (3-0-2) when they fell to the Columbus Crew, 2-0, on July 17 in their last league game. Today’s match is the second of a three-game road trip.

–          Danleigh Borman, Sinisa Ubiparipovic and Luke Sassano make way for Tony Tchani, Thierry Henry and Chris Albright in the lineup from the Columbus match. Remember, Albright was a late scratch from the Columbus game feeling his knee during warm-ups. However, he is fit to play tonight and did so against Tottenham and Manchester City last weekend.

–          Juan Pablo Angel returns to the lineup after missing the Barclays New York Challenge due to a left ankle sprain suffered against Columbus. Angel, who started and played 45 minutes in the MLS All-Star Game at Reliant Stadium versus Manchester United as the captain, stayed in Houston after the game was over.

–          Tim Ream and Bouna Coundoul come into the team’s 17th match being the only players to have played every minute of every regular season game.

–          This is the second meeting between the two teams, with New York earning a 2-1 victory at Red Bull Arena on June 2. After the teams were tied at one with Ubiparipovic and Brian Ching finding the back of the net, Angel scored off a dramatic 94th minute 35-yard free kick to give New York the victory.

Houston, which is coming off a 3-0 loss to the Columbus Crew last weekend away from home, is looking to get its first win since May 22. The Dynamo is 4-3-2 at home and is 5-8-4 on the season. Here is their Starting XI:

—————Ching——–Ngwenya———-

Davis——Palmer—-Obodai—–Cruz

Chabala—–Robinson—-Serioux—Hainault

———————-Hall———————–

Substitutes: Deric (GK), Cochrane, Oduro, Weaver, Mullan, Ashe, Mulrooney

Kickoff is at 8:30 PM and will be televised live on MSG, with Steve Cangialosi and Shep Messing calling the game! We’ll be doing live commentary on the match via our Twitter account (@newyorkredbulls). Enjoy the match!

Hello Everyone.. I cannot believe what I have been reading! JPA was going to be traded for Freddie Lun of Seattle. COme on now. WIth Henry feeding JPA they will be something to watch. Please Hans DO NOT SCREW with JPA! JPA is the man who gave his life and heart to this team. Why not try and negotiate non DP status. Great point scorer with Henry feeding him. Why even consider trading him? He scored some great goals this year and is still better than most forwards they are going to get. He is def. my favorite player and is very dangerous around the box. With Kandji prob. going to some english teams and no other real forwards coming up and Salou hurt again we need JPA. Lets try and negotiate with him and try and keep him!

  7. zack Says:

these MLS refs piss me off screw dynamo if we lose is cuz the refs screw them all

  8. chrisg Says:

could the refs be trying to give this game to houston any more?!

  9. jmp Says:

hmmm… wow, that was not a red card

  10. Starks in Tampa Says:

MLS has some of the worst refs in the world just awful red card and PK

  11. Starks in Tampa Says:

two great chances by Henry and could not put it in..rust? nerves? I doubt it was nerves but wow what chances to miss.

    • jmp Says:

he is just getting started.. they all miss a chance or two now and then. nyrb needs to control the midfield. We have to start dictate the tempo of the game. Marquez will help 🙂 good to see miller back. just watch him.. possession player – very good on the ball and he has got pace (borman is good tough, but i think miller is better). A lot of new player this year, they all need to gel.

    • Alle Says:

He only just got here, let’s not forget that he’s not 100% either. Give him a few games, you’ll see the real deal – although this is already a start, finding spaces, it’s a good sign.

  12. jmp Says:

GO NYRB! Strike hard, put pressure. get miller and albright up there.. score early, and then henry can be substituted.

  13. zack Says:

we are a man up and it looks like we are still haveing trouble

  14. christian Says:

    why was angel taken off?

  15. Alle Says:

HENRY ONCE AGAIN – ASSIST AND ANGEL AGAIN!

  16. lou Says:

Beautiful run by angel to lose the man, even better finish. there is only one Juan Pablo.

  17. jmp Says:

We need to push forward and get a 2 goal lead. Houston could still get that one great counterattack, and score, or even get another penalty. we need 3 pts.

  18. Ken Says:

JPA is the man! I truly feel Henry is a speedster and great set up man
but JPA is the goal scorer is frontj of the net. We can always get a CAM as a non DP but we need two great goal scorers who are hard to come by. Also the defense will get better with Marquez. Hans hope you
    are listening!

  19. jmp Says:

slow down they play guys… keep the ball for the next 10 minutes…

  20. jmp Says:

what a joke – 2 pts lost. it will get better.

  21. Eugene Says:

    Pathetic. Embarrassing.

  22. GunneRR Says:

Better days ahead, for sure. But dropping those two points still hurts. Damn.

  23. Victor Says:

Glad to see JPA still scoring looks like Buddle isn’t the only one who can’t stop scroing and glad Henry playing. And let’s see what rafael Marquez brings to NY.
