RED BULLS VS DC UNITED: POST MATCH

The Red Bulls captured the Atlantic Cup and won the season series with rival DC United by virtue of a 0-0 draw tonight at Red Bull Arena.  On a hot and humid night and in a somewhat chippy affair, quality chances were few and far between, but New York extended its unbeaten streak to five and maintained its spot in second place in the Eastern Conference.  At the halfway point in the season, the Red Bulls are 8-5-2 and on 26 points, despite holding just a +1 in goal differential.  We caught up with head coach Hans Backe, and players Bouna Coundoul, Mac Kandji, and Carlos Mendes to get their thoughts on the match.

Metros should be aggressive at times when attacking. Defense must be more solid. Come on, RBNY, let’s fight till the end!!!

After a great performance by New York in Colorado, I was expecting a little bit more effective connections in the final third and overall sense of urgency by the team.

I was impressed by the performances of Bouna, Tim, Joel and Tony. Before kick-off, I was wondering why Tchani wasn’t in the starting lineup and I wondered that even more once Tony did come in as he made the most of his perfomance.

Glad to see Mac back as well.

Sinisa and Richards had off-nights. I would like to see Sinisa, Tony and Joel play 90 together.

You will need a better performance to get points from Columbus.

Why doesn’t our coach play Garcia?

maybe because he is an unproven rookie with guys infront of him who have played well this year? just a thought

It was a very frustrating game, and we really could have used a halfway decent striker. Unfortunately, after what those (choose your expletive)s at Barcelona did to him, that’s all Thierry Henry is anymore: Halfway decent.

The team needs a creative midfielder ,thats the position they have
to concentarte in getting.Does not matter if you bring Henry if you don’t
    have that midfielder.

Any update on the team’s efforts to get Ze Roberto? That said, I did think the forwards did get service against DC; they just didn’t convert.
