RED BULLS VS. CHIVAS: POST MATCH

A great team effort defensively and a well placed Seth Stammler goal gave New York a 1-0 win over Chivas USA tonight at a hot and humid Red Bull Arena.  The win, New York’s second straight gives the Red Bulls 21 points (7-5-0) as the team heads into the World Cup break.  The win also secures at tie for first place in the Eastern Conference  with Columbus (which dropped a 1-0 decision away to Colorado, but has a game in hand) and gives New York momentum and happy feelings as the team uses the time off to heal up.  Adding to an already lengthy injury list, Sinisa Ubiparipovic left the match early with a right hamstring strain.  Following the match, we got reaction from head coach Hans Backe, Bouna Coundoul, Tim Ream, and Stammler.

What are your thoughts on tonight’s match?  Are you pleased with where the team is heading into the WC break?  Who was your Man of the Match tonight?  What about your Unsung Hero?  Share your thoughts in the comments section.

Great atmosphere last night, quite a good crowd turn out. Our team is looking really good.

I couldn’t make it last night so I gave my tickets to a friend. It was his first time watching a football game and he had such a good time that he wants to go back.

I thought we looked much more dangerous last night and finally we’re starting to get the results we deserve. Tchani looked good and makes a good case for a starting spot. I think sitting Petke was the right choice as he’s had a few missteps which have cost us in the last few games. Mendez looked solid and Lindpere looked great as always.

Let’s keep up the good work and keep it up after the break. In the meantime, C’MON U.S.A. !!!!

Good job guys, does anybody know how Sinisa is? It looked at the time like a hamstring sprain?

  6. Stas Says:

That what Sinica says after the game “”” “We’ve got 10 days now,” Ubiparipovic said. “I’ll get some rest and come back. I don’t think it’s that bad.”
I hope all the guys get well very soon!!
red bulls have 9 players on injury list!

  7. Dario Says:

Wonderfully played game, that needed a moment of brilliance from Stam.

Great Job. Now…COME ON USA! Beat England!

Great game last night. Outstanding atmosphere and turnout from the fans as well. Most importantly, however, is that we came away with three points and that’s all that matters.

  11. jspec Says:

Would not be long before we are selling out games. MLS should however stop give RBNY weeknight non-holiday games. I think that hurts turn out. I know so many people so say they’ve been planning to go to RBA.

  12. Shaun Says:

Tchani looks great. Not able to beat many on the wing, but I see him playing centrally in the near future. so composed.

Agreed about the weeknight games. The benefit of having your own stadium is that the weekends are yours! We need more weekend games.

Nice game RBNY….love to see cohesion in the play! keep it up!

  14. Anne Marie Says:

    Too bad I missed it.
