As many of you already know, former Red Bull Joe Vide is fighting a battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and recently was informed that his medical expenses would no longer be covered by his insurance. The Red Bull are supporting their former teammate through a number of initiatives, beginning with Saturday’s match with the Seattle Sounders. When fans enter the arena on Saturday, they will be handed #14 placards, and will be asked to hold them aloft during the 14th minute (just to clarify, that means from 13:01 – 14:00 on the game clock) to honor Joe’s fight with this deadly disease.
The Red Bulls will also auction off a signed, game-worn jersey of captain Juan Pablo Angel, and will raffle off signed, game-worn jerseys of the Red Bulls’ entire Starting 11 from the match, with all proceeds going to Vide’s foundation. The raffles will take place at the top of Section 127, where there will also be an area for fans to write messages of support to Vide. Collection buckets will be passed throughout the stadium as another way for fans to make donations.
Donations can be made at anytime at the website www.thefriendsofjoevide.org. Let’s support Joe during this most trying and difficult time during his life.
