RED BULLS VS. D.C. UNITED – PRE-GAME

Good afternoon and thanks for joining us today, as the Red Bulls, who are off to the best start in club history, look to win their first game at RFK Stadium since 2005 and extend their winning streak to three when they take on D.C. United. It is a sweltering day here in the nation’s capital. Here is New York’s lineup:

—————-Angel———Ibrahim—————
Stammler——Lindpere—–Robinson——-Richards
Miller————-Ream—–Petke—————–Hall
——————Coundoul————————

Substitutes: Sutton, Borman, Boyens, Tchani, Nielsen, Chinn, Ubiparipovic

A few notes to get you started:

– Only change from last Saturday’s lineup in New York’s 2-1 win over Philadelphia is the insertion of Seth Stammler, who will be playing on the left side of midfield in place of Brian Nielsen. Nielsen is working his way into full fitness while Stammler has played well of late.

– Salou Ibrahim, who picked up a knock against Philadelphia last week, will look to score in his second straight game after finding the back of the net against the Union.

– The back four of Roy Miller, Tim Ream, Mike Petke and Jeremy Hall play their sixth-straight game together while Bouna Coundoul is in-between the posts.

– D.C. United is looking for their first win and points of the season and will look forward to having previously injured Clyde Simms and Juan Manuel Pena back in the Starting XI. In addition, United re-signed former MLS Most Valuable Player Luciano Emilio earlier this week, who is available for selection after receiving his International Transfer Certificate Friday.

Here is D.C.’s lineup:

—————————Cristman———————
————————-Najar——————————
Castillo————Simms———Morsink———–Quaranta
Wallace————Pena——-Talley—————-Graye
—————————–Perkins——————————

Substitutes: Hamid, Moreno, Allsopp, McTavish, Khumalo, King, Emilio

Finally, while there are many things Red Bulls/D.C. United fans disagree about, the one thing that they should agree on is helping former New York/D.C. midfielder Joe Vide in his battle against Hodgkin’s Disease, which the Washington Post’s Steve Goff wrote about today. RBR can tell you that when he was a Red Bull, Joe was one of the hardest working players, who always gave everything on the training pitch and in games. Off the field, he was popular among fans and teammates and was extremely active in the community, logging in the most community appearances on the team. Make sure you help him out.

As always, we’ll be Twittering the game (@newyorkredbulls) so make sure you follow that. The game kicks off at 4:00 PM and telecast lived on MSG and TeleFutura. We’ll have post-game audio afterwards… Enjoy the match!!!!

Cmon you bulls, beat the scum down even more.

  2. lou Says:

GOAllllll. Salou ibrahim, maybe the worst mls player to ever score a goal in consecutive games? then again maybe that’s a little harsh. Whatever, he scored and that’s what matters. Angel has looked more mobile today. I hope nielsen comes in soon, maybe even chinn.

  3. karbaz Says:

Ibrahim has only played 3 game for crying out loud, how can you possibly consider him “the worst mls player” if he hasn’t even played an entire season yet?

    Goal ANGEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • lou Says:

the worst mls player in the 3 games then? and i said possibly.

      • karbaz Says:

No, not even close, Edmundo Rodriguez. Your negativity is beyond words.

      • Metro-211-7 Says:

Edmundo Rodriguez should not be our worst player ever! He created the best great play in Metros’ history. He created the play that led to Savarese’s goal.

And he was also involved in the goal that led to the 1-1 versus Sporting Lisbon, Metros’ first okay result versus a foreign team.

For worst ever Metro player, please choose somebody else!

      • lou Says:

it was a joke. he just looks like a stiff out there but manages to score. I said in the end all that matters is that he is putting it in the net, no matter how badly he is playing. not exactly overwhelmingly negative. your the one that can name the worst mls player in a 3 game span, off the the top of your head.

  4. karbaz Says:

When Angel hits form he’s gonna be deadly, he should have had a hat trick by now.

  5. karbaz Says:

Great game by the red bulls, first half was a little sketchy but we recovered and got a well deserved win. Beating DC away, man it doesn’t get much better than that. Suck it DC.

  6. Cindy Says:

great great game! nice job by the Red Bulls to come out with a better mindset [clearly noticeable in the change in Dane Richards play alone] and get the road win against DC!

also poor Joe Vide, i always loved him. i hope he gets well soon and things work out for him!
