Virtually directly off a trans-Atlantic flight (veering around the ash spewing from an unpronounceable volcano in the land of Bjork), Danish midfielder Brian Nielsen participated in his first training session as a member of the New York Red Bulls this morning.  We caught up with Brian after training to get his thoughts on a variety of topics, including the chance that he might make an immediate appearance for the team, as he will be available for selection for the upcoming derby match with the Philadelphia Union.

UPDATE: In the video, the license Brian was referring to was his ITC, but it has been received and he is available for Coach Backe vs. the Union.

UPDATE: To make room for Nielsen on the roster, Mac Kandji was moved to the disabled list.

I’m excited to see what he can do. Hopefully da luz can learn from him, because once this 8 month loan is up, it may be his turn to step up.

If he plays tomorrow, that would be great!

welcome Brian. We should all give him some cheers in RBA when he comes on, to make him feel welcome!

no doubt. I hope this kid lives up to expectations, he has all the tools needed to be a good player.

I hope so too. But if Backe wants to put him in with only 1 training with the first team i guess he is confident in what he will be able to contribute. Let’s hope 🙂

What’s the deal with our club interviewer? Where is he from? Based on his accent, my guess is that he’s from the northeastern part of the Westchester 😉

I really like this whole European thing we got going but I’m so glad Petke gets to “tawk” as much as he does.

Without Petke and Wolyniec, this club would seem like it’s just been plucked right out of the hills of Sound of Music!

I feel like our club is being molded in the same way as Chelsea… very cosmopolitan and foreign… It’s definitely better than before but we do need more local Joisy and Long Guyland kids… Forget the Bronx… they’re all baseball materials.

when our interviewer speaks i feel like he is having a hard time with english and I’m pretty sure he is from the UK somewhere so that should be his first language. he may just be trying to use simpler words so that the players understand him better.I bet a lot of our foreign players know just a little bit of english they learned in school or they might only know a few words that they have heard often. I always feel bad for them when they get interviewed because i know they are trying really hard to find the words to express themselves and are probably getting frustrated because they cant find it in their vocab. When i went to germany i was fresh from taking 3 years of german class and i felt like the stupidest person there using the smallest words and i knew my sentence fluency was absolute (deleted) haha

You could be right. It sounds like he’s speaking slowly and precisely here so it’s easier to understand, how is he when he speaks with players who have English as their first language?
We could start a bet to guess where he is from. I’m going for Glasgow, Scotland

Actually a lot of European people speak multiple languages with English being one of them. I am pleasantly surprised when I talk to someone from Europe and their command of the language is pretty good. I think that because all the player movement that takes place nowadays, English has become the common language.
