Good afternoon and thanks for joining us for afternoon showdown between your Red Bulls and Chivas USA. The Red Bulls will be looking to continue on their perfect 2-0 record this season while Chivas USA, at 0-2-0, is searching for its first points of the year.

Red Bulls head coach Hans Backe, coming off a procedure to remove his gallbladder Monday night, arrived to Los Angeles yesterday morning and oversaw training at The Home Depot Center complex in the afternoon. He will be on the sideline for today’s match.

Here’s the lineup for the Red Bulls:

Substitutes: Sutton, Boyens, Borman, Ibrahim, Mendes, Chinn, Tchani

Just a few notes for you to get started.

–          The Red Bulls’ lineup is unchanged from last Saturday’s 1-0 win over Seattle Sounders FC, as Backe was impressed with how the squad performed.

–          New York travelled 19 players to Los Angeles. Forward Juan Agudelo is not on the bench as the odd man out, while Carlos Mendes makes the 18 for the first time since undergoing hip surgery last August.

–          Midfielder Carl Robinson missed his second straight match with a right knee sprain while new signing Ibrahim Salou is on the bench and could see time in the second half.

–          Red Bulls goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul makes his third-straight start and has recorded three-straight shutouts dating back to last season – the second time he has accomplished the feat (Aug. 11-26, 2007 was the other time). His last goal allowed in MLS play came 311 minutes ago.

–          After breaking a 27-game winless streak on the road last Saturday, the Red Bulls look to win two-straight away from home for the first time since Oct. 8 and Oct. 16, 2005. Ironically, the second win was at Chivas USA – a 2-0 triumph.

–          Chivas USA, under new head coach Martin Vasquez, are hunting for three points before they go on the road. New Costa Rican defender Dario Delgado starts in the center alongside countryman Michael Umana. Here is their lineup:

Substitutes: Kennedy, Cuesta, Padilla, Romero, Lahoud, Braun, Galindo

  1. Karbaz Says:

Man I’m gonna have to switch between this and the Barca – Real Madrid game.

  2. Kmb499 Says:

    Road game in HD! Nice!

  3. Karbaz Says:

    Cmon Stamms.

  4. Karbaz Says:

Tame first half, little disappointed with our forwards and our overall distribution, but we didn’t give anything up. Hopefully the second half will be better for us.

  5. Julian Says:

Sucks redbulls play at the same time as real n barca….let’s go redbulls (and barca)

  6. Karbaz Says:

    Wow, Coundoul, wtf was that?

In reality, it was bound to happen, he’s been showing sings of doing something like this and it happened now. Completely ridiculous.

  7. Karbaz Says:

Come on guys push, I know it’s the third game of the season but you gotta fight for that goal.

  8. redbulls4ever Says:

Commmmon guys, where is that chemistry we normally have.? We are already in the 80 th minute. I know we can get a goal.

  9. Tom Says:

Bouna Coundoul is chivas’ leading scorer…

  10. Karbaz Says:

Well at least Barcelona won, still, this loss sucks because we played like complete crap.

  11. jack Says:

im a huge supporter of barcelona and nyrb so i had to switch off. only partly happy today 😦 huge blunder by condoul

  12. Karbaz Says:

The thing that bugs me the most is that Chivas didn’t play well either, we could have easily won this game but our guys just didn’t show enough heart.

  13. Cindy Says:

at least Tim Ream played fantastically again. i hope it stays that way the whole season. i kinda appreciate putting in all the forwards and attempting to go for the tie/win, but there was just no bite today. JPA is getting closer and closer to goal though.

  14. gas huffer Says:

Angel is looking old n slooooooooooooow. Vitamins, STAT!

  15. Karbaz Says:

I’m waiting for Backe to start a game using a 4-3-3 formation. Look at how many forwards we have and we might have one more coming.

  16. Alle Says:

If Angel starts getting loose legs again, we could do:

Kandji – Salou – Chinn, gives Salou some pace on the wings.

or Kandji – Angel – Salou. I always have some doubts with 4-3-3, whether it’ll actually work with this side is the question.

    • lou Says:

backe could be looking to do a 4 – 3- 3 with rodgers on a wing, since he will most likely be signing with the team now. a 4 3 3 with salou on the wings wouldn’t work out because he is just as slow, if not more then angel.

  17. Walter Says:

We do have a good team, just a bad performance today. We have to take it on the chin and move on. Our next game is FC Dallas at home next Saturday.

  18. BC-sec 130 Says:

What bar were our boys out on Fri night, they looked like they were nursing a bad hang-over. All will be forgiven if we show up at home next week. Need to get at least 2 goals. Man of the match-Ream,outstanding again!

  19. Adrian Says:

They played like crap so disappointed. I agree with gas huffer, Angel is looking slow. Salou should start over him even though I know that won’t happen. I hope he steps it up. Ream is the man and condoul are you serious?!?! This game should have been 0-0. Oh well gotta regroup and beat Dallas

  20. redbulls4ever Says:

    Go Redbulls……….. lets stay focused.

  21. emilio Says:

For all the money he is making Angel needs to step up, this week he needs to perform. His place in the squad should not be guaranteed.
