NEW YORK SIGNS ACADEMY PRODUCT AGUDELO: VIDEO UPDATE

Red Bull New York announced today that it has signed former Red Bull Academy forward Juan Agudelo, as he becomes the second Home Grown player produced by the club to join the first team. Specific terms of the deal were not disclosed, per MLS and club policy.

Agudelo, 17, has been with the Academy program since 2007, when he joined the Under-15 squad. On Sept. 3, 2008, the Barnegat, NJ native was accepted into the United States U-17 Men’s National Team Residency Program at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL, and scored his first goal for the U.S. U-17s just over two weeks later.  He helped the U.S. U-17s qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup after the team posted a 3-0-0 record out of Group A at the CONCACAF U-17 Championships in Tijuana, Mexico.

    • the special 1 Says:

i think it has something to do with MLS rules. i remember during last summer they said they couldnt comment until all paper work was finalized and they received league approval where as sites such as soccerbyives or b.lewis’ blog dont have limitations and can report speculation and rumors. cheers!

    whos is getting waived

    • Tim F. Says:

I think they may wait on this decision until Salou’s visa and ITC are obtained; I think that’s when the team’s hand is forced.

      • Tim F. Says:

Brian Lewis reported that: “Right back Chris Albright is on the injured list, and won’t count against the roster until he’s activated _ which wouldn’t be until May. At that point …. the team would also have to make a roster move.

  4. Jack Says:

    ah

  5. Larry Says:

Jack, as a “homegrown” player, Agudelo does not count against the roster. This signing will not force anyone to be cut. My understanding is that teams are allowed 2 such players at one time.
