The club announced that forward Giorgi Chirgadze underwent left hip surgery to repair a labrum tear and decompress the joint. The surgery was performed by Dr. Bryan Kelly at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Chirgadze is expected to recover in 4-5 months. Chirgadze, 19, was the first player to sign for New York under the Homegrown Player rule on Sept. 11, 2009. He did not appear in a first team game last year, as he was ineligible. Previously, Chirgadze was a standout player for the Red Bulls’ Under-20 Academy Team that won the Super-20 National Championship.
