RBR ON THE ROAD: DAY 2 – BRADENTON

In Day 2 of the Red Bulls’ trip to Bradenton, FL, the team participated mostly in possession games and drills focusing on defensive shape in an intense morning session. In a similarly lengthy afternoon session under the cool conditions, the players took part in finishing drills, as well as a full field exercise focusing on the attacking side of the ball. Finally, the players, all wearing heart rate monitors, did 20 minutes of fitness, running around the field at different speeds at the end of the session. One of head coach Hans Backe and the staff’s main priorities in the preseason is to get the players into top shape for the long regular season and practices like these will go a long way in accomplishing that goal.

As previously mentioned, kickoff for the Red Bulls-U.S. U-17 match is at 2:00 PM at the IMG Academy. The team is off in the morning. The game will be two 45-minute halves, from what we understand (some preseason games are split into 30s or 20-minute periods). Follow along on Twitter (@newyorkredbulls).

We caught up with second-year midfielder/defender and Tampa, FL native Jeremy Hall earlier and got his thoughts on the year so far:

dang, look at all that sunshine.

it’s really great to see all the emphasis on top fitness and attempting to maintain that, it will be a world of difference if JPA can stay healthy the whole year, especially now that he’ll be on grass!

Im glad to hear that the Red Bulls are focusing on fitness and finishing drills.. We had many chances to win or at least tie games but we just couldn’t finish (unfortunately).. Also, I noticed that we definitely looked like we just “gave up” during the end of most games while the opposing team always looked like they were still running at 110%.. I hope we get to the MLS Cup again and so far it’s looking good.. keep it up Backe
