The club announced today that goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul and forward Macoumba Kandji underwent successful surgeries earlier this week.

Coundoul had a procedure performed on his left knee by Dr. Riley Williams at the Hospital for Special Surgery Tuesday to remove a cyst and repair a small tear in his patella tendon. Recovery time is expected to be 6-8 weeks. Coundoul’s rights were acquired by the Red Bulls from the Colorado Rapids on June 29, 2009, and the Senegalese International went onto make eight starts, earning a 1.25 goals against average and two shutouts.

Kandji underwent surgery yesterday to repair his right adductor and hernia. The procedure was performed by Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia, PA. Recovery time is expected to be 4-6 weeks. In his first full season with the Red Bulls, Kandji tallied two goals and four assists in 23 games played in 2009. He won MLS Player of the Week for Week 8.

As for Kandji, I think it was the expectation that probably got to his head. Let’s not forget that this was his first season in MLS, next season should be better now that he knows what to expect.
