RED BULLS VS. SEATTLE SOUNDERS: PREVIEW

The Red Bull host Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday night at Giants Stadium.  This is the club’s only home match in June (there is only one home match in July as well, thank you Mr. Schedule Maker).  New York is looking to even the score with the expansion side after Seattle posted a 3-0 win in the MLS First Kick match back in March.  RBR caught up with Danny Cepero and Carlos Mendes to get their thoughts on the matchup.

    Yawn!

I can’t believe I am actually going to drive 1 1/2 hours to see this team tomorrow night. Is it me or do all the interviews sounds canned?

    Let’s go Pink Cows.

  2. nydasofine Says:

for an expansion team seattle look good thursday night. i wish my redbulls could play like that tomorrow night.
PICO…..u not the only one. i’m gonna watch them lose again tomorrow. all i’m asking is sequence in their games

  3. DS Says:

Yes, lets score an own goal in the last 5 minutes and drop 2 points. That’s a good way to play. And we should get another red card, cause Seattle is the only team in the league with more ejections than us. I want to be just like them.

And the match was on Wednesday night.

  4. DS Says:

Sorry, LA also has more reds than us, maybe we should try to be more like them as well.

  5. Alle Says:

I hope the tickets will be worth it on-field wise, I’m in no mood to witness what we saw in the first match of the season.

    COME ON RED BULLS!

Anybody sitting in the suporters section? If so: Do a nice(I’m being sarcastic here) Seattle chant for the away team once they’ve walked out of the tunnel and the kids are off the field, I need a little pre-match laughter incase the team decides to throw in the towel early..

  6. herzog Says:

Alle — Go join them in 101 and add your voice. Instead of just making suggestions and hoping someone will do this, be more than a passive observer like all the soccer moms.

  7. Alle Says:

I knew someone would make a comment on that – my tickets aren’t there though as my family brought me midfield seats for the match, FYI.

FIND A STRIKER TO GIVE ANGEL A REST!
RedBull needs a confident hungry backup striker that can create space score goals and make things happen. That will give Angel a chance to rest. Without a strong 3rd striker this season will stay in the crapper and Angel may not bounce back even next year.
Kandji is awesome but he needs someone else like him to work with while Angel is playing with pain.

  9. Alle Says:

Pain?! I dunno about that. He’s not getting paid a good amount of money to slack off on the pitch. They made the wrong choice when they decided to throw Oduro off the ship.

  10. kofix5 Says:

Dude he’s got some crazy arthritic condition in his back. RBR isnt talking about it but everyone else is. See this link– http://blogs.nypost.com/sports/soccer/

Thats why he has zero breakaway speed. He jumps fine but he cant spring forward like every other striker in the league. He cant make the darting runs to create space. Its not because he’s waiting for the perfect pass, its because he cant separate from defenders due to his stiff back.

If his back isnt really hurt, it doesnt change the fact that he cant breakaway from defenders the way he could over the last couple years and the way every other striker in the league can. We still need a strong 3rd striker and we need him now.

I don’t think we made the wrong choice by getting rid of oduro. OUr third striker is going to have to be someone that complements kandji, a player like oduro doesn’t do that. It would probibly be someone who is big, strong, and a good finisher like dichio or wolyneic (with more skill). The red bull management knew they weren;’t going to use oduro, found an oppurtunity to get rid of him, and ended up getting a first round pick for it. He hasn’t done anything in houston yet so until that happens i can rest a little easier knowing that for now red bull actually may have done something right.
It’s obvious this team needs new faces, and i would hope that these new guys wouldn’t all be from central america. There are a lot of soccer players our there and they don’t just play in central america so why not look in countries like brazil, argentina (but not for players like pietrovallo that bounce around from club to club), and areas like eastern europe, africa, and even america (academy players).

  13. kofix5 Says:

Surprisingly enough we actually got 2 first round draft picks for Oduro. Crazy right? At least thats what I heard.

  14. kofix5 Says:

Oh well, I’m off to get drenched at the game. And add my voice to the crowd.

  15. Alle Says:

@Kofix: I never knew about that, he just picked that up recently?

As for Oduro: Yes he’s short, but still, we could’ve used the extra striker in the line-up in case something happens to Angel or Woly – I would’ve preferred to sell him after we got another striker.

  16. Alle Says:

Yeah I’m leaving soon too, COME ON RED BULLS! For some reason, I actually think we could get atleast a point tonight, let’s hope the gut feeling is right.

  17. Lou Says:

You’re right alle, another body on the team is still another body that we could have used whether ideal or not. Since you and kofix are going to the game at least we know there will be two people in the crowd. I’m predicting an attendance of 9,500, anyone else want to take a shot at it?

  18. man Says:

    6000.
