INTERNATIONAL UPDATE

Andrew Boyens vs Italy

Andrew Boyens and All-Whites nearly pulled off an huge upset yesterday, holding leads on three occassions before falling to Italy late, 4-3, in the final tuneup before Confererations Cup play begins this weekend.  Boyens played the full 90, and picked up a yellow in the 26th minute.  New Zealand takes on Spain in the first game of group play on Saturday.  You can watch the match a special viewing party at Mulligans in Hoboken.

El Salvador and Alfredo Pacheco dropped a 1-0 decision away to Honduras in CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying (We found some pics from the match, but none featured Pacheco).  The Red Bull defender played 90 minutes before being subbed out right before stoppage time.  The loss drops El Salvador a point behind Mexico for the final CONCACAF spot.

How bad is new zealand, when one of our worst defenders is starting for them consistently? To be fair, it would have been an upset had new zealand won, but italy is an aging team and so many of the lineups they will be trying out in the year leading up to the world cup are far from their full ability.

Seriously though, if boyens (one of our worst players) is starting on the new zealand nationial team, yet barely even makes it on the bench for us, than what does that say about the quality of their nationial team. I’m not trying to hate, i give him props for getting on the nationial team, but either he is a completely different boyens when he plays for them or new zealand just has some really sucky defenders.
