RED BULLS-REVS PRE-GAME/RUNNING

It’s a beautiful day in Foxborough as your Red Bulls try ot snap a three-game losing streak when they take on the New England Revolution at 6:00 PM ET at Gillette Stadium. With international call-ups and a variety of injuries, the Red Bulls brought 17 players. Here is the lineup for tonight:

—————Angel———-Richards————–

Borman—–Celades—-Stammler–Zimmerman

———————-Sassano————————–

—-Goldthwaite—-Petke————-Hall———

———————-Conway————————-

Substitutes: Danny Cepero, Khano Smith, Juan Pietravallo, John Wolyniec, Sinisa Ubiparipovic, Carlos Mendes

A few notes to get you started:

– Mac Kandji did not travel and will miss his second straight game with a left hamstring strain. Jorge Rojas, who started against D.C. on Thursday, travelled to join the Venezuelan National Team.

– Nick Zimmerman earned his first MLS start tonight after making his MLS debut on Thursday.

– Luke Sassano makes his first start since April 26 in the Red Bulls’ home match against D.C. United. Sassano and Zimmerman enter in the lineup for Rojas and Carlos Mendes, who both were in the Starting XI against D.C. Thursday. This is similar to the lineup i talked about earlier, the few exceptions being that their are two up top instead of one, because kandji can’t play, and so therefore there is now a 3 man back line and ubi isn’t in the starting lineup. I’m not so sure i’m comfortable with the back line because petke is pretty slow and i’m not sure he is going to be able to cover much gorund. I was also hoping to see cepero in goal, because right now conway is making rookie mistakes.

I like that cepero and stammler are both playing up farther and that neither are really playing attacking midfield or defensive midfield. I guess we’ll see how things go, they can’t get much worse so it should be an interesting game.

  2. lou Says:

i meant celadas and stammler not cepero and stammler. My bad.

  3. kofix5 Says:

Conway will get a lot of practice defending the cross today.
    Stevie digs the Bangu.
Petke’s been owning his spot recently. Old folks like us prefer relying on experience for placement and positioning rather than Bolt speed. It’ll be a tough match for him though with all the darting runs I expect to see from NE.
Playing with Richards up top again?
Zimmerman needs a song. That kid walked in the game the other day and showed he deserves a starting shot. A few more games and he may cement that right mid spot.

  4. Cindy Says:

love that Zimmerman got the start!

  5. Glyn James Davies Says:

Angell should have finished that in the 12th minute, open net, what the…………………..

  6. Cindy Says:

also MSG is getting real fancy with their broadcasts eh?

  7. Cindy Says:

oh RBR… any word on Pacheco’s head injury from his international play? it’s nothing serious is it?

  8. Cindy Says:

also.. Red Bulls, my love for you knows no end, regardless of how crap you play. for me, can you please stop booting the ball and try and hold on to possession a little longer? ok thanks

  9. Karbaz Says:

Hey look we went down a goal before the half what a surprise.

  10. Glyn James Davies Says:

What subs should we use in the second half ? Who should come off ?

  11. Alle Says:

“Oh yeah, let’s give Osorio a nice big hug since he took us to the final, even if it was last year, I still love him” – I think whoever is saying that as we’re down 3-0 at this very moment needs a smack in the face!

Tell me this: HOW can you play 3 at the back for 2 straight games, knowing that this didn’t help us against DC???? That’s 5 goals in 2 games, and this game isn’t even over yet! I couldn’t care less if the midfield is packed, we don’t have numbers at the back to help our cause! Poor coaching, someone has to admit this by now, even all of you Osorio lovers..

  12. Cindy Says:

holy sh*t! i leave for a 20 mins and we are down 3-0?? ugghhhh

  13. Karbaz Says:

I don’t know if anyone else here read the mls-rumors.net article about the red bulls but here’s a small quote from it, “Word out of Austria is that Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz is growing tired of Red Bull New Yorks struggles on the field”, don’t be surprised if this is JCO last game.

I will always have a special place in my heart for him for taking my red bulls through the playoffs and into the mls cup final, and truthfully, as crazy as this may sound, I would like him to at least finish the season as a small thank you. I know that sounds nutts to many of you, hell it’s sounds crazy to me but cmon, there’s no playoffs for us this season with him or a different coach, just let him coach through this season then give him his pink slip.

  14. Alle Says:

Cindy I think you were the good luck charm going, sadly you left lol

  15. Alle Says:

Osorio is going home Karbaz, 4-0.

  16. Karbaz Says:

Oh god this is just painful, this is just too hard to watch.

  17. Cindy Says:

ah!!! i’m here now! please can we stop bleeding goals? geez!!

  18. emilio Says:

It doesnt matter, I think we all know what needs to be done. This is embarassing, how does he still have his job?

    Show some dignity RESIGN!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Alle Says:

Tell me about it, I feel like shutting off the tv at the moment. How long do we have to wait for Osorio to get his groove on? Right up until the end of the season?

  20. kofix5 Says:

    Zimmerman can play.
    Enough with Richards.
Lets see if Woly can play for more than 15 min.

  21. Alle Says:

You hear that: “No body knows who to mark”.

    Unbelievable.

  22. Karbaz Says:

Alle, it’s more like, nobody knows how to play, this is just sickening.

  23. Alle Says:

I’d rather have seen the u18’s play against these guys than this. I think this game is all said and done unless we get a goal to save some dignity, looks like we have to plan for Toronto at BMO next week..

  24. Alle Says:

And I hate how Angel just walks when one of NE’s players is not too far away with the ball, damnit move yourself or give the paycheck to someone else!

  25. Karbaz Says:

Give Richie Williams his shot as coach or, like I said some weeks back, why not break the bank for Jürgen Klinsmann, I don’t even care who coaches, someone can’t do worse than JCO.

  26. Cindy Says:

seeing as i have nothing to say about the Red Bulls play, how about the Red Bulls themselves. someone want to tell me why Conway thinks that porn stache is a good look?

  27. Alle Says:

You might want to check that IHateJonConway blog and see what you find (I never knew there was a blog on him until someone told me about it recently, that’s crazy lol).

  28. tilt215 Says:

I want to know where the ueusal people who say “oh come on now, we arent that bad… we’re just unlucky…… stop being so hard on the team… they are playing well……….”

WHERE ARE YOU? TELL ME HOW GREAT WE ARE AND HOW WE ARE JUST UNLUCKY. IM WAITING……..

  29. Karbaz Says:

Anyone who starts a hate blog about any player, no matter how bad he is needs a life.

  30. tilt215 Says:

We are breaking every record in the league when it comes to being bad team….. but we’re just unlucky right? JCO is a good coach right?

  31. kofix5 Says:

Speaking of disaster here’s a shot of Smith and Pietravallo.
hahha great timing on that shot

  32. Alle Says:

I’d like to see Almedin and all the rest of them later after this spanking..

  33. Karbaz Says:

Oh my god did I just see a shot from outside the box, no way!!!!

  34. kofix5 Says:

    Zimmerman the sniper

  35. Alle Says:

Smith looked pissed if you asked me lol

  36. Alle Says:

Woly nearly gave us a glimmer of hope! ha!

  37. Karbaz Says:

Alle, he’s probably thinking, “man I used to play for the team that’s kicking our asses”.

  38. Cindy Says:

i guess if any RBNY player deserves dislike in such a form a blog, then my vote goes to Jon Conway too, i can’t stand him myself. he has this cockiness that’s completely unfounded because he is he epitome of a mediocre goalie in my opinion.

Woly should have been put in earlier. I’m still quite pleased with Zimmerman’s play. that’s the best i can say for this game.

  39. kofix5 Says:

he if he actually ‘played’ for us the times he had the chance he would be on the field right now instead of borman

  40. Alle Says:

Yeah you’re right, Karbaz, I’m sure he’d like to go back too after this!

The only reason why Conway is cocky has got to be because he’s tall, it’s just a thought but I’m sure that’s why..

  41. kofix5 Says:

Woly has already been more productive than richards was the entire game

  42. Alle Says:

    Agreed.

Did you see that shot of Osorio’s head down?

  43. Cindy Says:

oh hey with the closeup of Nick Zimmerman – he is HOT! yeah i apologize for those of you who don’t care about that, but i’m looking for positives here!

  44. tilt215 Says:

you know if you guys want to comment on the game, there is a great thread going on over at http://www.metrofanatic.com on the forums. we are the wordls best complainers about this team lol

  45. kofix5 Says:

Well Cindy, he’ll be good for the calendar sales

  46. Alle Says:

Not much positives, that’s all for tonight. Poor performance, poor coaching, it was just another poor day in New England really. I hope the boys in Austria will give someone a call tomorrow morning.

  47. Cindy Says:

haha see kofix? now that’s looking at the positives!

  48. OgreDave Says:

well nyrb you saved me some money, i am not purchasing another ticket or renewing my season tickets for this GARBAGE!! Thanks red bulls!!

  49. lou Says:

I refrained from posting during the game, i could barely stand to watch it. Had i been on here while the game was going on, i probably would have started swearing so it’s probibly best that i wasn’t.

I just want to know were the usuals are that condemn people like emilio, myself, pico and many others. It seems as though we were rite all along. The players we said could play really could play, the players we said sucked really did suck, and the coach we said should have been fired a while ago hopefully will be fired. We need to see if somehow we can get benny feilhaber because he looked great against honduras, hopefully get castillo, get another forward, sign duka, swallow pietrovallo’s contract and let him go along with the rest of the dead weight, and lastly hand over the coaching job to richie williams at least until the end of the season to see how he does.

I love this team, but once in a while can the fans get some love back? Seriously i’ve seen some college teams that could compete with us, and the best part is that a few people on here are in complete denial. The results, ticket sales, and complaints don’t lie, and if we don’t act now are season will be completely gone (if it isn’t already).

Zimmerman can flat out play, why is it that khano started over him for so long.
    Borman was average
Goldy was ok, but he is much better in the center, which brings me to my next point. Why did we go with a 3 man back line again?
Petke looked old and worn out
    Hall was decent not great
Celadas did about as much as he could do with a team like this
stammler is still the rock of our team, he can play well with anyone
Angel looked older than petke and pretty pathetic
Dane was dane, what else has to be said about him
Conway, why does he keep starting? Are our keeper options so bad that we need to go after a keeper in the transfer window as well?

  50. Fredo Says:

Red Bull front office can’t be this idiotic. We have a state-of-the-art stadium being built with a Mickey Mouse squad. Shameful.

  51. Alex Says:

    FIRE OSORIO

  52. A.T. Says:

LMFAO!!!! This team sucks so bad it’s amusing. Like I said in the beginning if JCO would just let the other players have a chance to play who are good maybe this team would do better.
But nooooooooo JCO just wants to continue to play his favorites because he doesn’t have the balls to sit them on the bench for example JPA.
But instead he loans the good players like Mbuta and trades others and the ppl he traded or loaned are doing way better on their new teams.

This team and the coach deserves what they get and I hope JCO gets fired. Karma is a biotch!!!!!!!!! LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  53. Charlie N. Says:

    They stink– THEY REALLY STINK

  54. bulldogsmb Says:

I really love the Red Bulls , but I actually switched the channel and finished watching the WPS game, which was a much better game to watch. Angel and Orsorio, we wish you the best, here’s the door, don’t let it hit you on the way out. We need a better front line, and hope for the rest of this season.

    • tilt215 Says:

I did the same thing. when they scored that second goal I tuned immediatly to FSC.
I really think, for the most part, the girls in that league can play quality football for 90 minutes.

  55. gb Says:

    I can’t wait for the post-match interviews….

    Spin away Osorio….

    Spin away….

  56. frank lozano Says:

NOPE I DONT AGREE PEOPLE, JPA IS NOT A BAD PLAYER AT ALL, THE REST OF THE TEAM IS, JPA DOESNT HAVE A DAVE VAN DEN BERG IN A LINE UP, A GUY WHO LEAD JPA IN SCORING MORE GOAL THAN ANYONE LAST SEASON. ANGEL IS NOT THE PROBLEM, YEA HE HAS HIS UPS AND DOWNS BUT STILL A GOOD PLAYER, I BET YOU IF HE WAS IN RIVER PLATE, HE WOULD BE TOP SCORER OF THE LEAGUE, HONESTLY THE REST OF THE PLAYERS !!!!!SUCK!!!!!!:

    SASANO
    MENDEZ
    WOLY
    SMITH
    STAMMLER
    RICHARDS
    PETKE
    PETRI
    BOYNS

    GOOD PLAYERS WHO:

ROJAS__OPEN UR EYES PEOPLE, THIS DUDE MAKES THE TEAM MOVE, NOT AS MUCH AS WE WANT TO BUT DOES WAY BETTER THAN ANY PLAYER

CELADES__LETS JUST SAY THIS GUYS BEEN IN THE TOP TEAMS IN THE WORLD. SO WHAT IF HE IS 30SUTTIN, HE CAN STILL PLAY.

ANGEL__I FEEL SORRY FOR U, U GOT SUCKY PLAYERS WORKING WITH YOU

UBI__UR OK, U JUST NEED TO GET A LIL BETTER, LIKE LEARN HOW TO FAKE PLAYERS OUT, USE UR HIPS MORE AND HAVE ACCURATE PASSING

RICHARDS__I LIKE UR SPEED, TRAIN IN LEARNING HOW TO USE UR HIPS MORE, U CAN BE A BETTER PLAYER BY DOING SO, U DO RUN WELL WITH THE BALL AT TIMES BUT WEN TRYIN TO PASS MANY PLAYERS, NO BUENO

KANJI__I BACK U UP. UR A GREAT PLAYER, UR SOME OF THE RARE PLAYERS, THE LEAGUE HAS GOTTEN AND HAS PLAYED GOOD SOCCER FOR A CHANCE

GOLDY__U PLAY WITH HEART, I C IT, KEEP WORKING HARD N ULL BE THE SHIT

ZIMMERMAN__U GLL GET USE TO PRO SOCCER, AND ILL SEE U AS ONE OF THE MAIN PLAYERS IN A PRO SQUAD

SO.. I CANT BLAME JCO FOR HAVING PLAYERS WHO CANT FUCKIN PLAY SOCCER, AND ITS NOT JCO WHO BRINGS PEOPLE IN, IT GOES THRU JEFF AGOOS OR WATEVER HIS NAME IS, WHY U THINK WEN JCO WAS IN CHICAGO, HE TURNED THT TEAM AROUND?? THEY WHERE IN LAST PLACE!!! BUT WHAT HE DID,HE TURNED THE TEAM AROUND BCAZ OF HIS EXPERIENCE AND BECAUSE HE HAD GOOD PLAYERS IN THE TEAM BUT REDBULLS, MY TEAM, THE GUYS THAT I LOVE , NOO THEY ARENT AS GOOD AS I WANT THEM TO. IM SRY BUT THESE COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY PLAYERS HAVE TO GO. MLS ISNT GOING TO GROW LIKE THIS, BRING MORE PEOPLE LIKE WITH MORE EXPERIENCE TO SOCCER, BRING IN PLAYERS THAT ARE UNDER THE RADAR, I SWEAR IF I WAS THE COACH I WOULD HAVE A FEW PLAYERS THAT ARE UNDER THE RADAR AND BETTER THAN THOSE NAME PLAYERS, SRY IF WE CONTINUE WITH PLAYERS THAT DONT PLAY WITH THE HEART, THEN GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE TEAM. I CAN SAY JCO HAS A LIL BIT OF FAULT TO THIS
AND I SAY A LITTLE BECAUSE IVE SEEN HIM AS A COACH. HELLO HE WAS THE ASSISTANT COACH OF MAN CITY. …JEFF AGOOS STOP BEING CHEAP N GET SOME REAL PLAYERS. JCO, MAN UP AND GET THIS REDBULL FEDERATION TO STOP BEING CHEAP AND LEARN TO PICK REAL SOCCER PLAYERS. AND FANS, WE GUYS, WE HAVE TO LEARN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REAL PLAYERS, AND WORTHLESS ONES.

  57. JL Says:

    Frank you forgot Woly…

  58. emilio Says:

Angel is having a bad season, why cant some people admit it, are they blinded by his past? If all he can do it tap in goals than thats not the type of player we need, he hasnt been good this year, whether it be his age or whatever it is, he hasnt been good.

  59. Alle Says:

He’s slacking damnit, can’t you people see that? I don’t care if he doesn’t have the best players around him but once he gets the ball (which is somewhat of a rarity nowadays), he doesn’t do anything with it! He’s a ghost, plain and simple.

RBR: I know you read every one of these posts, I’d like you give a special message to Mr. Osorio: Bouna COUNDOUL is free and searching for a club. We can’t afford to have Conway in goal again, he’s tall for nothing and he’s NOT the greatest in this league. Get Coundoul, buy a few players, oh and not to mention, resign.

  60. emilio Says:

RBR: Please give a message to MR. Stover, please let Mr. Osorio go, the season is already over, there is no chance now of making the playoffs, so lets get some hope, because with Osorio we are in a hopeless situation.

  61. emilio Says:

Osorio made the moves he wanted to make, Chicago played awful soccer under Osorio and it was with another coaches roster, all they did was play ultraa defensive soccer, and that was only for a short stint, now we see over a boady of work 44 games and the Red Bulls have only 12 wins, other teams win with college players and foreign signings, the Red Bulls are playing under the same rules as other teams are, nobody is asking Osorio to compete with Barcelona or Manchester United, we are asking him to compete with DC United, the Revolution, Chivas USA, etc. Pacheco, Boyens, Johnson, Oduro, Boyens, Pietravallo, Smith, Osorio brought them in. Other teams do more with less, look at Chivas USA, a good coach can make a major difference.

  62. EM24 Says:

I have to agree that Osorio is definitely the problem, and Agoos. I don’t think it has much to do with RB not wanting to spend the money, it more has to do with the MLS not allowing them too. They are handcuffed by the league, it’s my understanding that RB was fighting to raise the salary cap, something that HAS to be done. Right now they have Smith and Pietravallo burning money and sitting on the bench, that was a bad decision that is hurting them. I believe that a different coach would be able to get different results with the same squad but there needs to be a major shift in the philosophy of the makeup of the team, that begins with young players. Look at Zimmerman, one heck of a fourth round pickup. They have good young players waiting but it seems that Osorio just doesn’t want to use youth. As far as I can see if they stay on the same track, which seems to be Osiorio’s plan, then the season is a wash. It’s over. In the process they’ll set some more records and most likely end the season as the worst team in MLS history. What I think needs to happen is to try and set the team in a new direction. Sure it’ll take time but at least if I see changes being made I’ll be more hopeful for next season. It doesn’t seem to me right now that they have any intention of doing anything that’ll start to turn the ship, and that frustrates me. To know you’re running ashore and to do nothing seems ridiculous but as a fan there isn’t much that I can do. It’s gotten to the point now that I know they’ll lose, that’s a foregone conclusion, I’m more watching now to see what happens to the team throughout the rest of the season, in other words, what changes management makes and what little glimmers of hope, if any, can come out of all this. I guess the only consolation in all of it, if you can call it that, is to be a fan during the worst times will make the day they win it all somewhere down the road that much sweeter.

  63. lou Says:

For all of you trying to pin angel’s poor stats and efforts this season on his supporting cast, you should probibly think again. He is among the top in the league in shots per game, yet hhe barely ever manages to score. The ball is finding his feet and after that who knows what happens. I can recall one play in the 12th minute were zimmerman destroyed the new england team, passed the ball into the box, ricahrds obvsiouly gets the ball stuck under his feet, the ball pops out and across the box to an on rushing angel and you know what he does… he whiffed it completely.
Look i love angel, but I also love this team, and if this guy isn’t going to play his heart out for the team than sit him. I’ve already said who i think we should get rid of and who we should sign.

  64. Alle Says:

I remember that play exactly, he should’ve had a touch on it atleast, I don’t know how he missed that completely…

  65. lou Says:

it was really pathetic, you could see he didn’t want to hit it before he got to it. He was probably thinking, “If i miss this…” and than he whiffed and just kicked a bunch of air.

  66. emilio Says:

I He is a striker he needs to score, he is getting chances, he shouldnt need 10 chances to score, thats why he is getting paid the big money, the responsibility is on him, whats this fascination with forgiving the ”star players”, the star on this team is Macoumba Kandji, thats the only star we have this year.

  67. lou Says:

I just had an arguement with someone on soccerbyives that insists it’s the team fault for angel’s poor play, in which i responded with some of the facts emilio brought up like angel is among league leaders in shots per game etc. I would argue that kandji is intead our star player but that zimmerman could be another one this year.

  68. Cindy Says:

i think Angel is one of those players who is affected by how well the team as a whole does, which as it pretty crappily means his play mirrors that. not to say that it’s excusable, it just sucks for us. i do think it’s something he can snap out of though.

and i wholeheartedly disagree with Stammler being on that bad players list from earlier.

  69. lou Says:

See cindy the way i see it is that the team is playing bad because angel is, not vice versa. The defense hasn’t been bad at all, except for the last two games were we repetedly used a 3 man back line. Let’s say on an ordinary day we might allow 1 or 2 goals at the most, if angel is putting away 1 out of his 5 shots on goal than we are rite back in the game. I can use the twelfth minute of last game as an example, when he rushed in and whiffed the ball. He’s getting chances just not putting them away, and the team is suffering becasue of it. Even if angel started to finish we wouldn’t be a great team, but at least we wouldn’t be 7 points behind everyone else rite now.

  70. emilio Says:

We need to realize, we cant be thinking about playoffs we have 9 points out of 42. Thats pathetic!!!
