A HUGE result for New York, as the Red Bull are now at 39 points with one match remaining, and with San Jose and LA both losing, eliminating them from the playoffs. A brilliant debut in net for Danny Cepero, who made some key saves (at the end of the first half and again after the Red Bulls went up 2-1) and then became the first goalkeeper in MLS history to score a non-PK goal. After the match, Danny got the pie in the face treatment (we will post that later tonight or tomorrow morning).

So who was the Man of the Match? Who was the Unsung Hero? What do you think were the keys to the win? What did you think of Danny’s performance, and of course, his goal? What are your thoughts on the performance of the team, considering the suspensions and the magnitude of the match? How do you think this win carries over to the match Thursday in Chicago? Man of the match? I’m gonna have to do “men” of the match, the winners being Angel of course with 2 goals and Capero with making some big saves and of course the first ever goal scored by a goalie in MLS history. Our performance, well it was pretty good, the best we’ve looked in quite some time but that defense continues to scare me to death, after Columbus tied the game I was like, “can we ever hold onto a lead?” But our guys fought back and showed a lot of heart and we got the well deserved and well needed win. Unfortunately tho KC won as well so we are tied but they are still ahead of us and DC is right behind us so we need to keep winning to get ourselves into the playoffs. We got Chicago left and they killed us at home early into the season but they haven’t looked great so we could get the win, KC plays New England which is good and DC plays Columbus which is great but we def need to win. If we win we are in, CMON RED BULLS YOU CAN DO IT!!!

I have high hopes for Thursday! Great game from Cepero, whose goal made it to #2 on Sportscenter’s Top 10 plays! Nice work Danny!

The combo of Boyens and Jimenez did what a good CB tandem does – quietly help win a game. They are the unsung heroes.

We definitely need to win our match against Chicago on Thursday, but if we take care of business against the Fire we shouldn’t worry about DC. As for KC we need them to lose or tie and we got to win as they hold the head to head tiebreaker. But this win was a collective effort of the whole team everyone played well, great match guys! Let’s win next week and hopefully we’ll be playing in november.

hopefully, with the fire already in the play-offs, they might ease off a bit, rest some of their star players, like the crew did in the last game against us, then we might get the win we need. but, would we rather face columbus or houston in the play-offs? i would prefer to go into the west and play houston than the crew.U?
