The team’s morning training session was forced indoors following an overnight rain storm that left all the fields that the team had available to them too soaked for a proper session. The coaching staff put the guys through the paces in the weight and fitness center as an alternative. Also, several new faces joined the team for training here in Argentina this afternoon. The three new faces are: Alberto Celades, Jaime Duran, and Aklie Edwards.
Celades is a vetran of La Liga, having played for FC Barcelona from 1995-99 and Real Madrid from 2000-05, winning major national and international championships with both sides, including a Champions League title with Real Madrid in 2001-02. The defensive minded player spent the last three seasons with Real Zaragoza of the Spanish Second Division. The 33 year old has made four appearances for the Spanish national team, including two appearances as a sub during the 1998 World Cup.
Duran, a 23-year old defender, most recently played for Skoda Xanthi F.C. of the Greek Super League. The Mexican played the bulk of his career for Atlas of the Mexican First Division. He has also played for the Mexican U23 team.
Edwards is another left-sided defender. The 23-year old is a member of the national team for Trinidad and Tobago, earning 11 caps while scoring one goal. He last played for Defence Force of the TT Pro League.

Like Cb said we will definetly be able to pick up at least one solid defender, the team should take more trips to argentina like this in the future and scout more argentine, uruguain, peruvian, chilean talent because there r volumes of great young players coming from there. I think Celedas, pacheco, and duran r all great players so let’s get it done.

To follow-up on Lou’s comments — will there actually be trialists from Argentina?
That’s what I was expecting, but so far we’ve heard of a European, a Mexican and another guy from the Caribbean. I thought we might get some guys with experience in the Argentine top flight.

I’ve followed Celades both at Real Madrid and Zaragoza for years. He is very very good, but I don’t see him as a CB, he is a pure defensive midfield. I have seen him play RB however. Again he is worlds ahead of most of the players we have here right now… I really hope they sign him. He would make Pietrovallo look like an amature.
