ROJAS RETURNS; THURSDAY TRAINING

By Red Bulls Reader

Jorge Rojas made his first preseason appearance today for the Red Bulls as the team resumed training after Wednesday’s session was cancelled due to inclement weather.  Also making an appearance at training today was Andrew Boyens, who now completes the arrivals for the returning players from last season.

Several players are recovering from injuries, and RBR procured the injury report for the team:

- Forward Oscar Echeverry and goalkeeper Terry Boss are currently rehabbing from their respective knee surgeries last year.

- Midfielder Seth Stammler, who underwent knee surgery at the end of the 2008 regular season, has made good progress and will join the team in Florida next week. He is expected to start running next week.

- Defender Andrew Boyens underwent surgery yesterday to repair a fractured left forearm suffered during the team’s playoff run. The forearm had not fully healed in the offseason and the team’s medical consultants suggested that he should have the surgery so that it would be 100-percent by the time the season started. Boyens will be able to do non-contact activities, but is not expected to fully trai with the team for four weeks.

- Midfielder Luke Sassano is nursing a high ankle sprain that he originally suffered in the Houston playoff series last year. Sassano played through the pain on the team’s run to the MLS Cup Final. He is expected back in three weeks.

- Midfielder Michael Palacio has been experiencing pain in his surgically repaired knee. He will be back in 1-2 weeks.

RBR caught up with Stammler and Boyens and we hope to post some video soon.

In non-news, Mac Kandji also trained.  He is not injured.  And is tall.
